The internal gear, also referred to as a ring gear, is a gear with its teeth cut into the inside diameter and mesh with spur gears. Internal gears are widely used in equipment and applications, especially in light duty applications, because of their large speed reductions and reduced sliding wear action. When it comes to having two parallel shafts rotate in the same direction, internal gears can meet that demand without need for an idle gear.
