A spline is a mechanical element that have a series of teeth on a drive shaft that mesh with grooves in a mating gear. A splined shaft usually has equally spaced teeth around the circumference, which are often parallel to the shaft’s axis of rotation. Splines also refer to as a combination of an external and an internal element.
